Inky Awards 2012 – Library Prize!

To celebrate the Inky Awards, the Centre for Youth Literature offered libraries and schools across Australia the chance to win one of two complete sets of the 2012 Inky longlisted titles for their library collection… Below is the display I created for my library:

I was contacted with the very exciting news that this display won! I went to the booktalkers Inkyfest event on the 30 October to accept the prize on behalf of Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation.

Boys, books and all that jazz

In July I attended the PLVN children’s and youth service seminar: boys, books & all that jazz.

The seminar featured popular American YA author Paul Griffin in conversation with author Archie Fusillo about engaging Boys with Books.

Adele Walsh from the Centre for Youth Literature spoke about the books featured on the Inky Awards Longlist and we were treated to the storyteller/entertainer Grant Cottrell.

The seminar concluded with a group discussion between the staff attending from various libraries about innovative library spaces, National Year of Reading ideas, Boys & Books programs. Ideas such as Lego Clubs, Minecraft evenings or a Silent Disco were floated around. I’d really love to hear what your library has done done to engage boys with books!
