Storytime – Father’s Day 2014

dads rockMany Australians observe Father’s Day on the first Sunday of September. It is a day for people to show their appreciation for fathers and father figures. In the lead up to their special day, the library runs storytimes featuring books about Dads  and a craft the children can give to Dad on Father’s Day. This year I made a card template for the craft activity – also see below for links to other great ideas.

Storytime – Dream, Wish, Imagine…

Nothing like new displays, redesigning book club logos and dreaming up new and exciting storytime themes to give the imagination a workout! In such a busy, fast-paced world, the importance of cultivating a child’s imagination can sometimes be forgotten.

Book Week with Ripper Readers

Book Week 2012 was Saturday 18 – Friday 24 August, the theme being Champions Read. Quite appropriate in a very sports dominated culture we have in Australia!

I usually make my way through the shortlisted books and place reservations on the titles so that I can show them to my Ripper Readers. I think it’s a great way to introduce the kids (and myself!) to new authors and illustrators.
